Heating and Cooling Repair in Pines Lake

Pines Lake is a lake community in Wayne. Older cabins here often have heat that was added later: baseboard, small boilers and oil burners. We repair those, along with furnaces, central air and mini splits, in houses all around the lake.

Services in Pines Lake: boiler repair, emergency boiler repair, furnace repair, AC repair, heat pump repair and ductless mini split repair.

Baseboard Heat and Small Boiler Repair

In a log or cottage house the heat is often hot water baseboard from a small boiler, or electric baseboard room by room. Hot water baseboard fails in a few ways: air trapped in a loop so the far end stays cold, a circulator pump that stopped, a zone valve stuck shut, or fins packed with dust and bent so the element cannot give off heat. Pipes run through a crawl space or an outside wall can freeze on the coldest nights, and a frozen loop stops the whole zone. Electric baseboard fails one room at a time, at the wall thermostat or the element.

Oil Burners Still in Service

Some boilers and furnaces here still burn oil. Oil burners stop on a clogged nozzle or filter, a failed fuel pump, a dirty cad cell that no longer sees the flame, a weak ignition transformer, or air in the oil line after the tank ran low. A burner that runs and then locks out is reporting one of those faults.

Mini Splits Where Ducts Will Not Fit

Solid log walls and low cabin ceilings leave no room for ductwork, so ductless mini splits do much of the cooling, and some of the heating, in houses like these. Mini split repairs are clogged drain lines that drip down the wall, dirty coils and blower wheels, failed drain pumps, refrigerant leaks at the flare fittings and outdoor units that flash error codes. A wall head that cools for a while and then stops is often icing up on a dirty coil.

Heating and AC Questions From Pines Lake

Why has my oil burner stopped working?

The usual causes are a tank that ran dry, a plugged nozzle or oil filter, a fuel pump that failed, a dirty cad cell that cannot see the flame, a weak ignition transformer or air in the oil line.

What can I do if all my radiators are not getting hot?

When every radiator or baseboard stays cold, the fault is at the boiler or its controls, not the radiators. Check that the thermostat is calling for heat and the boiler has power. Beyond that, the common causes are a burner that will not fire, a circulator pump that stopped, low pressure on a hot water system, low water on a steam boiler, or an expansion tank that has failed. Those need a repair at the boiler.

Why isn't my furthest radiator getting hot?

The last radiator or baseboard on a loop is the first to lose heat when something is wrong. On hot water heat the cause is usually air trapped at the high point, low system pressure, or a circulator too weak for the length of the loop. On steam it is usually a radiator vent that stuck shut or a radiator pitched the wrong way so condensate blocks the steam.
